After 45 days without a victory, Colin Tizzard’s winless drought was ended by Rose Of Arcadia who landed the EBF Mares’ National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle at Wincanton.
The six-year-old produced a flawless performance, travelling well throughout and jumped in front at two out. The mare kept on in the final stages and held on to win by a neck after a late challenge from Nicky Henderson’s Fable.
Rose Of Arcadia’s price for the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival has been snipped from 40/1 to 25/1, while Fable remained at 25s.
Lieutenant Rocco made an impressive performance at Ffos Las, as the Nick Mitchell-trained runner landed a maiden victory over fences in a Novices’ Chase.
The former Colin Tizzard recruit was a dual hurdles winner under his previous connections, and had shown ability over the larger obstacles for his new yard.
The six-year-old jumped fluently and took well to the step up in trip, leading from the front throughout and staying on well in the closing stages to win by eight lengths.
Lieutenant Rocco was clipped from 20/1 to 16/1 for the Brown Advisory Plate at this year’s Festival, but remained at 25/1 for the Ultima Handicap Chase.
