Donald McCain’s gelding returns to handicap company and could still be a fair bit ahead of his mark of 115 given some of his early career form.

Abbie McCain takes 5lb off his back to further help his cause and he arrives here in good nick with two wins from his last three outings, and a second at this track in-between.

The rival who beat him that day and has gone in again since so he looks to pose a real live threat to his rivals here, with a step up in trip an interesting move by connections.

The Cheshire yard’s day may get off to a flying start earlier in the card, though, with the Grade 2 Aintree bumper contender set to make his reappearance for the first time since the Grand National Festival.

So far, the early signs from that contest have proved it was above average which makes his 12th-placed effort at Aintree more creditable, and he won his only two starts under rules prior to that.

He’d ideally want a bit more juice in the ground but looks the obvious selection here under Brian Hughes regardless.
