Going off as a 50/1 outsider, Rebecca Curtis’ gelding had course experience on his side after finishing in the top five on his first three starts over three miles at Prestbury Park.

Remaining in midfield for the majority of the contest, the then seven-year-old began to make headway after the seventh hurdle and began to reel in the front-running Apple’s Jade.

Coming around the bend, he pulled level with Gordon Elliot’s mare and began his challenge in the home straight.

Wedge kicked his mount on and he responded gamely, jumping cleanly over the last hurdle with Matthew Smith’s Ronald Pump in pursuit.

Curtis’ recruit won the battle of wits in the final 100 yards and cleared away, claiming success by two lengths.
