To celebrate Richard Johnson turning 44, today’s rewind looks at his final graded victory at Prestbury Park – onboard Make Good in the Bristol Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham back in December.

Under the guidance of dual-code trainer John McConnell, the gelding went off as a 12/1 shot on his first start in Graded company and over three miles.

The six-year-old was held up at the back of the pack for the majority of the contest, but he began to make headway on the home turn and battled his way into contention.

After bypassing the final hurdle, he cleared away from his rivals in the closing stages and pulled further away from the group.

The gelding landed a seven-length victory to give McConnell his biggest career success to date.

Make Good has yet to race since his Cheltenham win due to injury, while Richard Johnson retired in April with more than 3,800 victories to his name.
