Cheltenham’s Showcase successor Captain Tom Cat puts his undefeated start over fences on the line at Worcester on Wednesday afternoon, in a card that will pay tribute to the late Liam Treadwell.
Dr. Richard Newland’s son of Dylan Thomas is two from two over the larger obstacles since his Aintree debut back in May, winning well under a penalty at this track earlier in the month.
Now off an official rating of 144, Deva Racing’s bright prospect has already way exceeded his mark over hurdles, even in spite of his glory at Prestbury Park last season.
His handler has already identified some big plans for the summer for his stable-star.
Newland told the Racing Post in the aftermath of his most recent success: “We were always very keen to go chasing with him. He’s a big, scopey horse, jumps for fun and enjoys front-running. He was brilliant at Aintree.
“If he comes out of this race okay, we’ll probably try to get in another novice run and after that we’ll take a view as to whether we go for the big summer chases. The Summer Plate at Market Rasen and the Galway Plate maybe.”
