CORMIER: Greatwood runner heads for Cumberland Plate

Brian Ellison’s Cormier had a few spins over hurdles last season but returns to the flat for a valuable handicap at Carlisle this week

Last year’s Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle seventh Cormier is set to reappear on the flat this Wednesday in the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle.

Brian Ellison’s charge, who represented the same connections who took The November Meeting showpiece via Nietzsche two years earlier, won two of his hurdle races last campaign and most recently finished second over timber in the Swinton at Haydock.

He returned to the opposite code with a bang when winning at Pontefract back in May and is back in race action later this week off a 6lbs higher mark, partnering Ben Robinson.

Cormier features in the Cumberland Plate Handicap, which is worth a total of £21,200

The going could be a key factor in the chances of the Born To Sea gelding, with his handler previously describing him as a lover of soft ground, and any rainfall in Cumbria would be of great benefit on that merit.
