Cheltenham Racecourse, the Home Of Jumps Racing, in Cheltenham Spa, Gloucestershire, England

UP THE STRAIGHT | 2:05pm Ballymore Silver Trophy Handicap Chase (Grade 2 Limited)

Richard Rowe’s seven-year-old is still relatively lightly-raced given his age with only 16 runs under his belt.

He’s been entered in some hot contests since his switch from hurdles to fences, having finished third at this track back in October.

However, he bounced right back to form at Sandown in a Listed contest last time out when perhaps tiring in the ground in the late stages.

The better ground that he’ll encounter at Prestbury Park this afternoon is sure to play to his strengths and given the calibre of rivals he’s chased home this season, a mark of 139 may yet still underestimate him with that elusive win surely not far away.

ELHAM VALLEY | 5:00pm Cheltenham Pony Racing Authority Graduates Handicap Hurdle (Conditional Jockeys and Amateur Riders)

Fergal O’Brien‘s juvenile ran a cracker in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival last month, picking up the bronze medal at odds of 66-1.

The form from that contest has already been franked with Jeff Kidder winning at Fairyhouse once again, and he was only carrying 1lbs more than Paddy Brennan’s mount that day.

Raised 3lbs for good measure, the son of Tin Horse now has Liam Harrison in the plate who takes a handy 7lbs off his back and with a repeat of his March run, he looks one of the stronger bets of the day.

PERCY’S LAD | 2:25pm bet365 European Free Handicap (Listed)

Eve Johnson Houghton’s colt was a bold second on his last start in heavy ground at Newbury in October.

He had won his previous two starts at Salisbury and Nottingham, respectively, and he’s partnered once again by usual pilot Charles Bishop.

A son of Sir Percy, he could have more to offer as a three-year-old and remains with an entry in the 2,000 Guineas next month.

SAFFRON BEACH | 3:35pm Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3)

Unbeaten in her first two starts, the New Bay filly holds a perfect record over course-and-distance on her return this afternoon and victory here would all but confirm her place in the 1,000 Guineas in May.

She blew away the field on debut in good ground, so conditions today won’t be an issue, albeit she comes up against the fellow undefeated Love Is You.

This is another step up in class, but she’s undoubtedly promising.
