With the aftermath of the Punchestown Festival, National Hunt could be forgiven for taking a backseat to the flat but there’s still three jumps meetings across Britain on Wednesday.
We’ve made four selections from two of them.
Read here.
Paul Nicholls’ five-year-old didn’t feature much at Kempton last time out when unshipping his rider at the start but he did win at Taunton before that.
Bryan Carver takes the ride in Devon on Wednesday, claiming 3lbs off his mount’s back, while the presence of the 139-rated Rockadenn means the remaining rivals are low in the weights.
The selection, however, could be more well in than handicap debutant Heross Du Seuil, who was a fortunate winner at Kempton before being well beat, and Warwick next time, potentially arriving here with a bit of a point to prove.
Ravenswell Farm enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 season and Fergal O’Brien saddles his yard debutant for a British debut under rules here.
The son of Mountain High hardly shone over timber in multiple efforts but ran with far more credit in a couple of starts over fences between the flags and has been a prominent figure in the betting ahead of the penultimate contest of the day.
Paddy Brennan takes the ride and the stable tend to do well with these kind of horses in this sphere.
Anthony Honeyball’s Windance took advantage of a penalty over course-and-distance last time but didn’t win with much in hand and a 13lbs rise may just find him out.
A chance, therefore, is taken on Emma Lavelle’s representative who remains a maiden under rules and continues to tumble down the weights, now off a mark of 113.
He was beaten a head in a bumper at this track two years ago and given the fact he won a point-to-point, a step up to this trip could be the making of him.
Fitted with cheekpieces and a tongue strap for the first time, this could be the day where he passes the post first and his Newbury form has worked out well.
Gary Moore trained more winners at Fontwell than any other handler last campaign and perhaps his eight-year-old could be the one to side with here.
He was beaten by a subsequent winner over a slightly longer trip at this track last time after a few pipe opener’s in bumpers and he once won off a 14lbs higher mark than this.
The better ground is sure to suit and given his trainer’s record at this course, he makes plenty appeal at the prices under a 3lbs claimer.
