The International

Just two weeks before Christmas, Cheltenham Racecourse brings you festivities of their very own. The International is a two-day event in Cheltenham that promises top-tier entertainment with elite horseracing and world-class hospitality.

The Cheltenham International offers 15 excellent races to indulge in, with a mixture of Steeple Chases and Hurdles. The first day consists of 8 individual races including the featured race The Unibet Handicap Steeple Chase. Then, Saturday gives you 7 more including the featured race The Unibet International, as well as the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup.

The 2021 edition of Cheltenham’s International Festival is scheduled to take place On Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th of December. 

Day One – Friday

Eager fans of horseracing and The International will be please to hear that Day One of The Cheltenham International is scheduled for Friday the 10th of December.

There will be 8 races on Day One, beginning with The British EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle Race at 11:30, featuring The Unibet Handicap Steeple Chase at 14:25, and ending with The CITIPOST Handicap Hurdle Race at 15:35 before the early winter night settles in.

The British EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle Race

Race number one of Day One and The 2021 International will be The British EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle Race. Beginning at 11:30 am, this  Hurdle race is two miles and one furlong in length.

The International Decorative Surfaces Novices’ Steeple Chase

The second race of Day One will be The International Decorative Surfaces Novices’ Steeple Chase. Start time is scheduled in for 12:05 and will conclude after three miles one furlong and 56 yards.

The Catesby Handicap Hurdle Race

At 12:40 on the Saturday of The International will be The Catesby Handicap Hurdle Race. This Class 3 Hurdle race is two miles and 179 yards long.

The CF Roberts Electrical + Mechanical Services Mares’ Handicap Steeple Chase

As many in attendance begin to enjoy a spot of lunch, race four kicks off in the form of The CF Roberts Electrical + Mechanical Services Mares’ Handicap Steeple Chase. This race is two miles four furlongs and 127 yards long and begins at 13:15.

The Fitzdares Club Loves The Peterborough Chase

At 13:50 and just past the midpoint of the day, we have the two miles and four furlongs in length Fitzdares Club Loves The Peterborough Chase.

The Unibet Handicap Steeple Chase

The featured race of Day One at The International will be The Unibet Handicap Steeple Chase. Scheduled to start at 14:25, this featured race stretches three miles and two furlongs.

In 2020 it was 5/1 Storm Control with jockey Richard Patrick that took the £22,780 first-place prize in this race.

The Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Steeple Chase

The penultimate race of Day One at The Cheltenham International will be The Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Steeple Chase. This race starts at 15:00 and is the longest race of the day at three miles, six furlongs and 37 yards.

The CITIPOST Handicap Hurdle Race

The race that will bring Day One of Cheltenham’s International Festival to a close begins at 15:35 and will be The CITIPOST Handicap Hurdle Race. This final race is three miles long.

Day Two – Saturday

The second day of The International 2021 will be on Saturday the 11th of December.

Day Two will consist of 7 races including two of the biggest on Cheltenham Racecourse’s racing calendar – The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at 13:50 and The Unibet International, the penultimate race of the entire event at 15:00.

The JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle

The first race of Day Two is scheduled to begin at 12:05. At two miles and 179 yards long is The JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle.

The Jockey Club Cheltenham and SW Syndicate Novices’ Steeple Chase

The second race of Day Two will be The Jockey Club Cheltenham and SW Syndicate Novices’ Steeple Chase. Start time is scheduled in for 12:40 and will conclude after two miles four furlongs and 127 yards.

The Spreadex Handicap Steeple Chase

The Spreadex Handicap Steeple Chase will be the third race of Day Two of The Cheltenham International. It will begin at 13:15 and the participants will run two miles and 62 yards.

The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup

At 13:50 will be The Cheltenham International’s very own Gold Cup. The phrase ‘Gold Cup’ alone thrusts excitement levels through the roof. It’s a race of exuberance and jubilation through the entire two miles four furlongs and 127 yards to the final post.

The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Race

The second half of the day kicks off with The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Race. This three-mile Grade 2 Hurdle race begins at 14:25.

The Unibet International

The featured Race of Day Two and the penultimate race of the entire event is The Unibet International. Commencing at 15:00, this Grade 2 Hurdle race is two miles and 179 yards long.

The 2020 Unibet International was won by 6/1 Song For Someone, with 6/4 favourite Goshen finishing in last-place.

The Close Brothers Mares’ Handicap Hurdle

Finally, to cap off The Cheltenham International, we have The Close Brothers Mares’ Handicap Hurdle. This race will start at 15:35 and is two miles four furlongs and 56 yards in length.
