The November Meeting is a three-day horse racing meeting held in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire every November that offers 19 extraordinary races for horse racing enthusiasts to enjoy.

About the Race

The mallardjewellers.com Novices Steeple Chase is a Class 2 National Hunt steeplechase for novice jumpers that takes place at The November Meeting every year.

Open to horses aged five years old and above, the total distance of The mallardjewellers.com Novices Steeple Chase is 3 miles and 80 yards featuring a series of fences for the novice competitors to jump.

Last time out there was a purse worth £25,000, which is shared proportionately between the first four horses to successfully complete the race. Each placement position receives the following amounts:

1st place – £15,640

2nd place – £4,620

3rd place – £2,310

4th place – £1,155

2019

2018

The mallardjewellers.com Novices Steeple Chase was won by 11/2 third-favourite Ibis Du Rheu at The November Meeting 2018, ridden by jockey Harry Cobden and trained by Paul Nicholls.

8/1 outsider Theatre Territory finished just a length behind Ibis Du Rheu in second place, followed by 1/1 race favourite The Worlds End in third and 11/4 second-favourite Minella Awards in fourth. The only horse that failed to complete this edition of the race was 25/1 outsider Brynmawr who fell 5 out.

2017

Back in 2017, the winner of The mallardjewellers.com Novices Steeple Chase was 4/1 least likely Black Corton, ridden by jockey Bryony Frost and trained by Paul Nicholls.

10/11 race favourite Ballyoptic finished 4 lengths behind Black Corton in second place, followed by 7/4 second-favourite West Approach in third. These were the only three competitors that ran in this edition of The mallardjewellers.com Novices Steeple Chase.
