The Showcase Day Two

When National Hunt horse racing finally returns to Cheltenham Racecourse after the summer break it’ll be time for The Showcase, a two day National Hunt horse racing meeting with plenty to offer.

Appropriately named, this exciting event showcases 14 excellent races across its two days, including two intense, high-value featured races, run by its competitors with The Cheltenham Festival already in mind.

The featured race of Day Two is The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Steeple Chase at the mid-point of the day, beginning at 15:50.

Day Two of The Showcase is scheduled for Saturday the 23rd of October 2021. Let’s take a look at the list of extraordinary races that wrap up the final day of the first meeting held at Cheltenham Racecourse for the 2021/22 horse racing season:

Race two of day two is The Best Odds At Matchbook Novices Steeple Chase which is scheduled to begin at 14:40.

The Best Odds At Matchbook Novices Steeple Chase is a Class 2 novices steeplechase that is open to horses aged four years and over and run on the old course at Cheltenham Racecourse. This race measures a total distance of 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 166 yards and features 14 fences for the competitors to jump.

The competitors of this moderate steeplechase compete for a prize pool of £25,000, with £15,857 assigned to the team of the winning horse.

The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle Race

The third race of day one of The Showcase at Cheltenham Racecourse this October will be The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle Race, beginning at 15:15.

The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle Race is a Class 2 hurdle race and a qualifier for The Pertemps Final handicap hurdle which takes place at The Cheltenham Festival.

The competing horses are required to be aged four and above and will need to run a total distance of 2 miles, 7 furlongs and 208 yards of the old course at Cheltenham, leaping 12 fences along the way.

The purse for this race is £25,000, with a £15,485 sized chunk assigned to the winning competitor.

The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Steeple Chase

The featured race of day two at Cheltenham Racecourse during The Showcase will be The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Steeple Chase, which will begin at 15:50.

The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Steeple Chase is a Class 2 handicap steeplechase open to horses that are aged four years old and over. The race distance is 3 miles and 1 furlong and it features 20 fences along its route.

The purse for The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Steeplechase is £60,000, with £37,164 assigned to the race winner. The remaining balance is shared proportionately between the second, third and fourth-place finishers.

The Lara Telfer Reined In for Racing Welfare Novices Hurdle Race

The fifth race of day two at Cheltenham Racecourse for The Showcase will be The Lara Telfer Reined In for Racing Welfare Novices Hurdle Race, which is scheduled to begin at 16:25.

The Lara Telfer Reined In for Racing Welfare Novices Hurdle Race is a Class 2 hurdle race that is open to novice horses aged four and above and run on the old course of Cheltenham.

The race distance measures a few metres short of 3 miles, featuring a dozen fences along the way for the competitors to jump.

This race has a purse of £15,000, which is shared between the placement position finishing horses. The winner of the race receives £9,384 of this.

The Ryman Stationery Cheltenham Business Club Amateur Riders Handicap Steeple Chase

The penultimate race of The Showcase’s day two will be The Ryman Stationery Cheltenham Business Club Amateur Riders Handicap Steeple Chase, kicking off at 17:00.

The Ryman Stationery Cheltenham Business Club Amateur Riders Handicap Steeplechase is a Class 3 handicap steeplechase for horses aged four and above with a rating of between 0 and 125.

The course length is 3 miles and 1 furlong and features 20 fences for the amateur riders to negotiate. The purse for the race is £15,000 with £9,608 assigned to the winning team.

The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Standard Open NH Flat Race

The final race of day one this October will be The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Standard Open NH Flat Race, concluding the meeting at 17:35.

The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Standard Open NH Flat Race is a Class 2 National Hunt flat race open to horses between and including the ages of 4 and 6.

The race distance is 2 miles and 87 yards and as a flat race features no obstacles for the contenders to navigate. Possessing an overall prize pot of £15,000, I Am Maximum won the £9,285 first-place prize last time out, ridden by Nico De Boinville and trained by Nicky Henderson.

Odds

Odds on races during The Showcase are as generous as they are during The Cheltenham festival or in fact any other meeting held at this world-class horse racing venue.

The best-priced winner at last year’s Showcase was The Conditional with a starting price of 14/1, beating the race favourite by a length and three-quarters and turning £10 outright stakes into £140 of profit for those that had faith in the outsider.
